Google’s Android operating system for mobile platform, is leading towards the most widely accepted platform for mobile users. There is no admiration in the fact that Android will be ruling the mobile platform, as it already tired out Nokia’s Symbian range of operating systems.

There are hundreds of Android applications being created every day. Since Android are an open source distribution, its API and source codes are publicly available, hence enabling people to develop application suitable for it.

There are mobile handset manufacturers already knotted their trust on Android. Few much popular phones released by HTC, Samsung and Sony Ericson are based on Android platform. Notably HTC’s Desire is one of the best handset available on the market today, as top10 dot com and other websites rated it.

Android operating system was developed by Android Inc., during mid-2005, and later Google acquired it, as always, Google lead it to be much popular among mobile phone manufacturers and users. Android has a large community of developers writing Apps that extend the functionality of the devices. There are currently over 100,000 apps available for Android. Android Market is the online app store run by Google, though apps can be downloaded from third party websites. Developers write the application in Java language.

Android 2.2 codenamed Froyo is the latest stable version of Android range of operating system, and another version codenamed Gingerbread expected to be released during the end of 2010.
