Facebook: A slight change in friends on chat display, will this attract more users to keep themselves online?

Facebook is keep on bringing innovative changes in its user interface, even thought someone might feel it annoying at the beginning, gradually it tend to be very useful and user friendly. Facebook has just changed the way of displaying its online friends. it is a catchy iconic representation of your friends profile pictures on left sidebar, as pictured here, and the green button there, indicates that the friend is active online, and the gray button means the friend is away or just went offline.

 

The chat application was earlier one of the Facebooks most sluggish and  less secure feature. but after introducing new protocol such as XMPP, it has improved a lot. and now, through  its change in appearance, Facebook is trying to attract more users to concentrate on live chat. Earlier I have seen many Facebook users keeping their status offline even if they are active in Facebook, but hopefully these new chat features may help  Facebook keep more of its users online.

The new chat interface is also allowing you to search the friends who are available online. there are rumors that facebook will very soon be introducing voice and video chat.  let us wait and see how Facebook will introduce those features.

But there is a major fault I have found in this new chat display. When we click on the small thumbnail of the profile picture, new profile page is loaded instead of a chat window! But it happens only in some circumstances. Not always! I came to know the same problem is faced by few of my friends also. Let us hope Facebook will fix this problem very soon.
